Elk Hunting by Example

It was a clear bright day near the end of hunting season. Grandpa, Ed, Jon, and Ted headed to Illinois gulch on the snowmobiles in hopes that they might surprise an elk along the way. As they sputtered to a stop in the middle of the gulch, Ed motioned that he would go around the outter perimeter of trees and try to flush some elk out to the rest. With the plan set, Jon, Ted, and Grandpa settled down to watch for movement. After only of a short time of Ed's buzzing in the trees, the wait was over. As with every elk siting, they seemed to appear instantly from nowhere and they were running across the horizon in front of Grandpa, Jon, and Ted. Jon and Ted quickly opened fire.
Bang-Bang,
Elk still running,
Bang-Bang,
Elk running faster,
Bang-Bang,
Elk not twitching,
Bang-Bang,
Elk lining the gulch,
Jon is out of bullets,
Bang,
Ted still blazing away,
Grandpa has been struggling with his helmet and gloves,
Bang,
Jon fumbles to reload,
Bang,
Grandpa leans over his snowmobile,
Bang,
Is Ted ever going to run out of bullets?
Bang,
Grandpa's has to clean off his steamy glasses,
Bang, KABOOM!
Elk down after only 1 shot from Grandpa's cannon.

Too excited to be embarrased, Jon & Ted rush up to the elk and the work begins. By that time, Ed shows up and dresses out the elk. They return to the cabin to retrieve a sled to pull it back to camp.

Lesson learned - you only need one bullet to kill an elk, but you need to aim with an "Eagle Eye".
